OK so it’s not in great condition. The bed needs replacing and there’s some welding needed near the rear strut mounts and top seam on the bed panels, but it runs, has the 68hp motor, and was £240! A cute ute indeed.
Big thanks to Schaefft and Car Guy-Twingo Tamer for their help today, which is a story in itself for tomorrow, involving broken down Land Rovers, slobbery dogs, weather, and exhaust poisoning.

Don’t you be stealing my little bit of limelight with that Celica nonsense! You've had your turn.

Put a turbo in it.

Looks quite nice. I haven’t seen one in ages, not that they were that common here in the Netherlands to start with.
Oh and look at all the Fun you can have in these:

It has been discussed, but no, it's going standard :)

Was a fun day despite all the chaos haha. Did you get chance to see if they have pre fabbed panels for the bed?

240 pounds! That’s almost money (that’s a steal).

Second 1.3L engine in the bed to make it AWD?

Would hoon...
or use as a work truck.

Nice! And £240 is a great deal :)
What’s on the list to fix?
I picked up my 99p MGB today and it’s worse than the pictures showed, but not by nearly enough to make it a bad acquisition. Got tons of junk with it too! I’ll post up pics tomorrow when it’s light :)

50/50 work/leisure. I really like these little trucks and if I’m whacking loads of time (and welding) into I don’t want to ruin it with hard work! It’s basically got to carry plants, that’s all I ask :)

A noble cause. Also, this exists:

Ah the list. On initial look last night and a better look this morning, if it were to go to MOT, we have:
Rear crossmember to be replaced, rear bed to be replaced with epoxied ply or repaired with a Transit load bed (more £££), rear strut mounts to be repaired (not much structural rust but still a fair bit of graft- yippee), front nearside cut and stitch near strut mount, side bed ‘crossmembers’ to be deep cut and stitched in, rear quarter panels to be cut and stitched along 2 30cm strips on the top seams, a small section of body panel on each rear quarter to be cut and stitched (or replace whole rear quarter each side to kill two birds with one stone), rear hatch reconditioned and new new hinges, new sparkies, new coil pack, new crank sensor or MAF (hot start issue), full service not including timing chain, 4 new tyres.
So far. But there’s so much space in the engine bay and underneath it, especially being FWD that I can’t see any major issues in getting this work done other than time and welding skill!

Considering the size of the 1.3 and tranny sitting in the engine bay, that would be a really easy job!

I know! But a half-decent one will set you back over £1000, anything less and you’re buying a box of yellow shit. Also I really don’t dig the upholstery.

I didn’t realize it was a production vehicle, I thought it was only a concept/one-off. Weird!

My old mk2 Golf has the 54 HP 1.3i engine. It’s so tiny you could stand next to it in the engine bay. Almost.

Nope! It has rear seats that slide out into the bed, unlike the regular Felicia pickup, and has it’s own range of accessories and truck tops to boot.

Yesterday all three of us marvelled at the engine bay of the Felicia. One by one we all said, ‘there’s just so much space in there’. Tied to the fact the vehicle is featherlight, it certainly forces you into considering a 1.8T.

I knew about the seats since the one at the muzeum had them, but shocked it made production. Now I want one.

Not just on the upholstery. I found one for sale, and it showed me some details:

I wonder what the relevance is? It’s not exactly the Alfa Quadrifoglio or Lancia HF Elephant!

Very nice :) it’s definitely a £300 car then!
Can you weld already? If not you’ll definitely be able to after this!
![]() 04/17/2016 at 16:23 |

Basic stick, which will be fine for bodywork, but if the rear xmember needs replacing I reckon I’ll need gas. The guy next door to me in the barn is a ‘give me anything and I’ll fookin weld it for ya’ kinda bloke, so I may not have that much to do. Welding first, then service and plugs, and some cheapy tyres and she’s good to go!
![]() 04/18/2016 at 02:50 |

If you can weld stick then MIG will be a doddle. You’ll already have experience with the hardest bit which is heating up the metal just enough, but not too much. Saying that, your bloke next door sounds like a handy person to know :)
I didn’t realise it was the last car Skoda built on its own platform either :) even has a Skoda engine! Cool :)

Honestly, that’s pretty much the main reason I bought it. The first of the VW owned cars, the last of the Czech! Yeh the guy next door just welds and welds, he also builds shepherds huts, and this is his latest build:
A bloody massive trailer base for a bloody massive shepherds hut!

Bloody hell :) I know how much effort went into welding the frame for my car trailer so I know that that’s a ton of individual stitches.
If you think, each time a box section ends at another box section that's 4 individual stitches you need to weld. I'm impressed (and jealous of the inside storage he has...)
